Not sure what size I need yet but I wanted to learn how to resize properly because have needed to do it a few times and can't get it right.

Haven't decided whether it'll be ganache or buttercream on the outside at the moment. If it's ganache it will be chocolate or dark chocolate. As for consistency, pretty much the same as buttercream which means I'll either have to whip the ganache or soften in the microwave. Any covering I put on doesn't have to be absolutely perfect, because it will have several layers of fondant and also the sides will be scored with lines. I think I just have to make it as level as I can but like a fool I should have bought two cake boards instead of just one. I'm hoping waitrose will have them in stock so I can get another one!

A[@]roxylee123[/@] resizing images, I do it in word,

open a blank new document and choose zoom-100% (usually it's in the 'view' part at the top.)

Now either drag and drop your pic into the document or choose insert image.

Now with a ruler you can resize by dragging the corner of the pic in or out and get it exactly how you want it. It will print almost exactly the same size it is on screen.

Sometimes it helps to set the page layout to landscape and sometimes setting the 'picture border' to bin front of text'then you can shimmy it round the page better, hope that makes sense!

Grey I just had a quick go and could drag it and change the size but couldn't change it to landscape. I am normally pretty good with computers but just can't seem to get this resizing I must sound like a right thicko

AOK now I'm stunned absolutely stunned, I know she's famous, but for crying out loud, was looking on Cake wrecks, and same across Jane Asher's website, theres a 10" cake on there with a tiny fire engine and I mean tiny, like its cut in half tiny, and two figures, its on there for £385, now come on thats taking the p..s surely?

Haha Nanny - I've just found it! £385 flip me the rest of us would charge £80!!! I didnt realise she did actual cakes the last time I saw her website I'm sure she just did accessories. That's an incredible profit margin plus its collection only extra for carriage.

£185 for this!

malteser.jpg

£320 for this - my 8 yr old could make this - take two boxes of cigarellos (pre-made) 1 box malteasers and a bit of wire.

AHi all,

Barbara, your cake turned out perfect!!! :)

Roxylee, I use excel to resize my images.:-)

Tiddy, that cake looks soooo yummy!!!!! Love anything chocolate!:-)

Barbara, I don't like Jane Asher as I think she is soooo over price her cakes. Maybe for all the A list celebrities!!! Wonder whether her cakes taste nice!!!!

And a question to all you lovely people who bought cake laces.... Can I use Claire Bowman's cake lace mixture in any other lace mats? Or should it be her own mat? TIA for any help! :-)

AChasingmytail, ha ha ha, what have I started with you? It is ridiculous though isn't it, hey do you think I can get £400 for my boxing ring then? I think not!

For some people, cake is cake! And sometimes it depends whose making the cake, grr, rant over.

God I dread to think how much she's charge for the next cake I'm making, its huge, unfortunately no money involved its for my grandson, he's 5 on Wed, a star wars fan, hence the Darth Vader pic of me on Sat, ha ha.

I had an edible pic done of his fab millennium falcon, I coloured the fondant dark blue with some white stars around it, problem £500 at least.

Thanks Bashini. I think foxy roxy bought some mats from eBay, check with her though.

Nanny - its always good to see whats happening in the world.  Reputation and street address obviously pays off.  No doubt these cakes are prob sub contracted so the real designer/maker doesnt get a mention - wonder if they get well paid?

My 5 yr old had Shaun the sheep he wouldnt have a clue on star wars.  Best of luck sending an invoice to yr daughter/in law requesting £500 for the pleasure.

Tiddy one word on yours - yum ;-)

I'm in a mind spin over the christening cake this week on colours and what colour goes where to look most effective! Been spending ages on you tube for booties tutorials and wanted to learn how to do pearls round each each tier I thought in royal icing now I've learned you can buy a mould for it, wish I knew this earlier as could of ordered it to arrive but with bank holiday not sure it would get tor before Saturday - boo :-(

Anyway sorry as probably missed so much from other posts as they seems loads since I was last on, but hope everyone good..

Not really.

I know someone who used to work for her, it's a bunch of talented cake decorators working to pre-designed cakes and are targeted to fully decorate 8 cakes per day (!) it's long days with lots of work and unless something has changed the pay doesn't match the talent of the people working there.
