Sorry Bashini I should have thought to tell you to make some kind of booth, I've heard of it getting all over peoples curtains and ruing them. I got a Hetty Hoover a couple of weeks ago so have kept the box for when using my airbrush so hopefully no more on the walls.

Morning all :) Fab cakes, Lizzybug love the butterflies, glad you got it there and put together ok, but how sad about the dent! I'd have been fuming at the people who moved it!!

Looove the airbrushed burger Bashini! So tempted to get one....did you have to build a spray booth so it didn't go everywhere?

Just a quickie from me, but just got an email from cake lace with a 10% discount code as it's their first birthday today and though people might find it handy given all the lace making going on lol - on their website enter '1stbirthday' at the checkout :)

Hi Kathy, hope you're having a fab holiday

Oh and loved the grey and dotty cake, very pretty (was that yours Jean?) I love anemones :)

Can't take the credit for that one, I think it was another Lizzy :-)

Oh dear Bashini! That's the only reason I've resisted buying one thus far, esp as we have cream kitchen units.......yikes!

AWow you've all been busy.

Sorry I have a memory like a fish and can't remember who made what but I love the butterfly cake it's so pretty. Would have been super annoyed about the dent though.

The minecraft cake is great too bet you're glad it's over. I still ha e no idea what minecraft is even after all these cakes!

I would love to make a frozen cake!

I still have no cakes in my immediate future but going to have to find a way to christen these tins somehow. Plus I also ordered lots of the flavourings from Lakeland too so I need to try them. The ones I've had in the past are yummy so need to give the new ones a go.

Oh Roxylee, no, no... I was fully aware that this would happen. I didn't have spare boxes and I have an old kitchen, so I didn't mind it getting everywhere. I wouldn't do it in any other room as we just painted the whole house!!!! I just cleaned my hob, and all the wipes were red!!!

Mel, I think it's worth putting up with every hassle!!! You'll bound to love it!!!

Bashini when you get deliveries just keep all the boxes even if there smaller ones and stick them together with strong tape. I'm gonna try and find time to get mine out later and try airbrushing the cake lace I made. It is so much easier when you can cut everything out in white and colour it with the airbrush. The big band theory cake I did before xmas was the first time I had used mine so only did the letters and the signs didn't have the confidence to try the whole cake until the second try when did the tyre cake.

This is the cake

Lizzie, beautiful cake! I can't believe what the staff did to it and the fact that they ignored the instructions about all the flavours. What a lazy bunch.

Natt and Jo, great cakes too!

After my last order in March, my next order is (possibly) July. I say possibly as I don't like to assume people will definitely order after getting a quote from me. Snail's pace is an overstatement to describe my cake business at the moment. Ah well, At least eldest daughter is getting two cakes- one next week and another in June, and it's my bestfriend's birthday in June too so that's 3 cakes to keep me occupied in the next few weeks!

Lizzybug, haha I did santa boots as well last year:

I also did christmas tree and snowmen. I manned my booth though so I charged £1.50 each and they all did sell out in the end, after I dropped the price to £1 when everybody started to leave! I didn't want to take home any cakes!

AThanks Roxylee. I will keep some boxes next time. Your cake is beautiful!!! It really easy to cover everything in white and I don't have to buy pre-coloured sugar paste. :-)

Roxylee, I airbrushed one of my cakes red and I wanted a very dark red. Would you do one coat at a time? Because I did it all at once and it stated dripping on the top. But I added a white band around it so you cannot see it.

Thanks Bashini. Yes your best to do a few coats that's what I did with the black tyre cake, it only takes a few minutes to dry and you can add another coat then. If you try to do it all at once it can form drops and run down your cake. How did you find getting an even finish on the cake. I managed ok with the tyre cake but wondering if that was because it had the impression in it and if it was plain if I would have got it as good.

AMorning all. :-)

Jo your cake came out really well :-) who made the two minecraft cakes? Roxy I think? Maybe Mel can't remember! Anyway I looked at those and wondered how anyone could do all those squares without chucking the cake out the window! They were really good but I'd never even try to do that, way beyond my capabilities! I'd try yours though, I think it's so clever. I want someone to ask me for a minecraft cake now so I can steal your idea - if you don't mind of course.

Forgot to say last night, i was laughing at your school cake sale stories. My daughters school is the opposite, they milk us poor parents for every penny they can get. Their excuse is everything costs more for disabled kids and because they have fewer pupils they get less funding than most schools. So, at one summer fete I donated 48 cupcakes and they were selling them for £1 each or a box o 6 for a fiver, that's a lot for cakes they had for free I thought but people were paying it so good lucto them. When my daughter got to the cake stall she wanted one (obviously) so she chose her cake and the PTA chair (who helped me carry the cakes in from the car!) Held her hand out and said "pound please"! I was so shocked I actually handed over a pound! :-D

Lovely cake Roxy.

Sorry you're not getting many orders Jean, is your website up and running yet?

Roxy, my family loooooovveee Big Bang! Fantastic cake!

My MMF  seems ok. I have made it before and it didn't really turn out well- it was tearing when I placed it on a cake. My new MMF is waiting to be 'test rolled'. I may try covering a dummy with it. If I washed the dummy well and covered in trex, do you think the MMF can be taken off and used on a real cake? I wouldn't want to waste all the hard work on the dummy!

Maisie, my site is up and running. Google doesn't find it though and my friend said it's because it's not being clicked on that much. I wish it would go faster, but all good things to those who wait (I hope!!!). My friends are starting to recommend me to their friends and so are the parents at my daughter' school. I'm aiming to be a wedding cake supplier, and that's a whole different ball game!

Heheh your school really sucked you dry!!! I'm planning my cake table/stand at the school fair on the 20th June- cake pops and cakes for the parents. I may revise my menu for the parents to include more boozy cakes. I'm inspired by the mention of Baileys cakes a few pages back- we have some Baileys in the cupboard and hubby and I aren't exactly drinkers- better use for it eh?

By the way, Maisie, I realised a few days back that you can see all the photos posted on this thread on this page titled 'Images posted in this thread'. Instead of looking for the images by going back several pages, just look for the image on the right side of this page! It doesn't work in mobile view though, only on desktop view :)

Thanks Maisie I can't take credit for the minecraft cakes though that was Tiddy and Jo.

Thanks Petitecat my family love it to, that was actually the first cake I made for someone an old friend asked me to make it for her sons 20th birthday on boxing day as well as a round christmas themed cake and I also made a 10" square for my mum at the same time along with tons of cupcakes.I must have been mad to say yes but it turned out ok and they loved it so much she asked me to do her grandaughter's holy communion cake for 20th june. Not looking forward to it at all to be honest she wants a 14" pillow,10! pillow and a closed bible on top with butterfies and the name on wires coming out at the back of the book. I'm not to fussed about the decorating part of it it's the baking the pillows that I'm worried about. the corners tend to dry out quite a bit before the middle is cooked. This is the first time my cake will be used at a party and it is a shared party so there will be three other cakes there, I guess I'm worried that if it does turn out a bit dry even though I will be using sugar syrup they will all be talking about.

About the MMF I covered my dummy with it using trex and then peeled it off and have every intention of using it for a cake I don't see an harm in it.

I was just thinking the same think for us all to keep visiting the site and move it up on google.

Also if you look for a photo in the thread photos and left click to open it in a new tab then click the red cross in the new tab to close the photo it takes you to the conversation at the time of the photo. Hope that helps and makes sense.

AOops, sorry Tiddy!

Just clicked on the link Jean but having trouble navigating. It's this new tablet I think, I bought t when my iPhone broke and I just can't get on with it!

Will somebody please give me a kick up the backside? I need to start a cake for Monday and I haven't so much as made a flower or a letter yet! It's because its yet another giant cupcake I think k, even I'm sick of them now! Do you all get requests for the same cake time after time after time?

AHi all, thanks for all comments on cake yes glad it's done ! Maisie not sure if you were referring to my 'simple' version of minecraft design but if you were go for it ! I had trouble with the tiny bits of squares eyes having chubby fingers doesn't help lol ! Also thinking of cutting my nails right down before the dreaded christening cake this week !!

Am going to try Asda's sp next then maybe order some covapaste or sugarpaste direct. So hard with everyones different opinions, I have trouble making a decision at the best of times!!

Petitecat going to your site now x

Maisie, can't say I get any requests at the moment LOL!! I'm not keen on giant cupcakes and a lady nearly ordered it. She ended up ordering a cupcake bouquet instead (I'd forgotten about that order) but I didn't like the result so I didn't post the photo on my webpage because I don't like the way it looks. I hated using the plastic cups to put them in- just looks so cheap!

I guess on a positive note, if you repeat a recipe and style over and over you become quite the expert on it. I imagine you'll be making giant cupcakes in your sleep pretty soon!

Here's the kick

*kicks Maisie up backside*

Maybe try a different design for inspiration...?

Jo, I know what you mean! Apart from waitrose SP, I'm really not too sure what to try next. I saw Covapaste in a shop I went to a few days back. I should have bought it just to give it a go but I was in such a rush!

Thanks for looking at my site :)

AWaitrose was by far better than tesco's had a weeny bit of elephant skin on my second lot of green but to be fair with all that colour I think it held up quite well! I suppose until I've tried them all I will never know, people also treat sp in different ways some what could work for some might not work for others ?? Well that's my rationalisation anyhow ;-)
