Sugar Art For Autism Cake
So honored to be a part of this beautiful collaboration in 2017! The inspiration for my cake design was a beautiful painting by Nekea Blagoev, I fell in love with the way she used textures and shadows in her paintings, I knew I wanted to try to recreate one in cake form! I painted my design with food coloring gels on top of a fondant covered cake. I used a blue gray background with a crackle finish and painted my tree design after the background had fully dried and cracked. The final step was to layer both white sanding sugar and sugar pearls to recreate the layered textures Nekea uses in her paintings. I love the way her use of shadows and textures brings an ethereal feeling to her work! It was such an honor to have the opportunity to recreate her design in sugar and be a part of this wonderful collaboration!
It was an honor to be asked to do a cake for Cake Central Volume 7 Issue 3 int the "Blue Geode Wedding Cake" section. I was on my way out the door for a week long family vacation but I figured why not it would give me something to do while everyone was sleeping. I packed everything I would need (so I thought) and researched on the way. I certainly found out that I did not have what I needed and the nearest store was well over an hour away so I had to make do. The design elements were all from nature. The Geodes were made using gumpaste and sugar with silver leafing accents. The top tier over lapping design was from a picture of the center of a palm leaf. The double barrel was just fondant colors mixed to mimic marble stone and hand painted with silver accents. The bottom tier design was from a picture of flat white coral that was stacked. Each piece was cut and shaped by hand using fondant. I have to give a big shout out to my husband and son who crossed a river with my cake jumping from boulders and wading in the little rapids so that I could get just the right pictures.
Waterfall Cake (Wild Kratts Theme)
One of my most recent cake. Wild Kratts was the birthday theme. Used gel icing for the first time mixing the blue sparkly one with some white gel along the bank and around the rocks to give it a more realistic look. I tend to use toys as decorations as it doubles as a gift for the birthday kid!

Hi all, happy to share here a Wedding Cake designed with my favorite colour theme – Red, Gold and Blue. The bride wanted the cake colours to be well coordinated with her Red, Gold and White, and the bridesmaid Royal Blue costumes.
