This cake was for a bride and groom's reception following a beach wedding one month ago. Her only request was pink scrolls. I am having a terrible tiem with wrinkling fondant.
you could try to put your tier on something the same size as the tier, like a crisco jar, so the sides of the fondant hang straight down when trimming. that helps with wrinkling. or roll the fondant out several inches larger than the tier, so there is lots of extra to prevent wrinkling. it looks great!!
Some fondant tips I have learned the "hard way"...hope this helps!!! I use a very large rolling pin to roll out the fondant large enough to cover the entire top and sides of the cake. After rolling (be sure to use powdered sugar to dust the fondant as you're rolling), roll the fondant around the rolling pin loosely, but tightly enough to hold it. Then, lay the outermost edge of the fondant on the rolling pin low enough to cover the sides and unroll the fondant on to the cake. :D
