Fluorescent Cell Cake
#Fluorescent markers are commonly used to track proteins, DNA/RNA or organelles in a cell. Using a #microscope that visualizes the fluorescent tags, localization, movement and interactions between these cellular components can be accomplished. There are many types of #microscopy techniques. Here, an #epithelial cell is labelled with a #mitochondrial tag (red) and the cytoskeletal #actin filament tag (green). Additionally, the cell #nucleus is identified with a #DNA tag (blue). Using fluorescent markers, we can understand #intracellular components, their interactions, and how they maintain the cell #health, #metabolism, #cellproliferation, and other cellular functions. We can also determine the differences between the varying types of cells in the body, eg. how does the #kidneycell differ from the #heartcell.
