Sugar Myths And Fantasies Collaboration: Medusa

Sugar Myths And Fantasies Collaboration: Medusa on Cake Central

A character I always loved and was only waiting there, in a corner of my mind, for the right chance to give her a Sugar life. Medusa has always given shivers but somehow turned to be one of the most fascinating creatures of mythology. Medusa was originally a golden-haired, fair maiden, who, as a priestess of Athena, was devoted to a life of celibacy. Being wooed by Poseidon and falling for him, she forgot her vows and married him. For this offence, she was punished by the goddess in a most terrible manner. Each wavy lock of the beautiful hair that had charmed her husband was changed into a venomous snake; her once gentle, love-inspiring eyes turned into blood-shot, furious orbs, which excited fear and disgust in the mind of the onlooker; whilst her former roseate hue and milk-white skin assumed a loathsome greenish tinge.

Seeing herself transformed into such a repulsive creature she fled to Africa, where with the curse of Athena upon her, she turned into stone anyone she gazed upon. My Medusa is completely handmade, handpainted and airbrushed. Her structure is made out of Rice Krispies covered in modelling fondant. No need to say, I enjoyed every little second of her creation but I tried very hard not to look her in the eyes…you know…just in case!!
