Fondant covered fresh strawberry cake. Client found pic online, my attempt to recreate. Has anyone ever 'stood you up' in coming to pick a cake up? Only the 2nd time this has happened to me & so it was with this cake. Ever hear of turning lemons into lemonade? I changed the name on it to my s-I-l's name and daughter picked it for him as he was just celebrating his 29th. True to form, he did not 'partake,' but daughter took to work where they ate all in 1 hr. :) Look for the silver lining. :)
Thats why I take a deposit. Balance to be paid before they pick up the cake.
If you get 50% up front it covers your materials.
Yes, 123 grandmother, I have same 'policy.' However made exception because this person was gf of a long-time clients son. Never dreamed she would renege on order. (Found out after the fact that clients son had broken it off w/gf some time ago :/) Only 2nd time (in 37 yrs) this has ever happened & unfortunately if you trust others it can happen. On plus side, coworker of daughters who had some cake has contacted me re: ordering a cake. Thank you. Deposit is best idea always!
