Toys Through Ages Even though toys have changed throughout the ages,some toys have always been around.Whenever I think of toys through ages I enter a world of whimsy,nostalgia and fun mix of the familiar and forgotten…..a visit down the memory lane.

Somewhere around the 15th century a german inventor Karel Grod invented the 1st wind up toy and soon the wind up mechanism was popular all around the world.Various toys came into market with the wind up action,it consisted of a spring attached to a winder key,when the winder was rotated the energy used to rotate the winder got stored in the spring and was transferred to the gears attached,its called conversion of energy.No batteries were needed and the toys lasted longer than they would now a days.

Hence I have tried to create “Monkey with Cymbals” wind up toy that has been popular for ages and with decades the toy has changed,some still using wind up key while others have replaced it with batteries but it still continues to fascinate the little ones.

This cake top ornament is made with chocolate flavoured sugar paste and gum paste for some finer details like the cymbals and scarf,the board has a rug effect with some hand carving techniques to get the texture.
