My favorite part of this cake was the Lady Ranicorn and Jake the Dog characters. The original image of the cake design just had a rainbow on the side of the cake. My customer suggested bumping off of the idea and creating a wrap around with Lady Ranicorn. Well...when I found out that Jake the Dog was the rainbow unicorn's boyfriend, I was delighted. I mimicked the idea and extended his body to wrap around the bottom tier as well. You can't see it, because it is on the back side of the cake, but the character have legs. My second to favorite character was the Lumpy Space Princess. My first attempt was a two dimensional character that had to texture whatsoever. It just didn't look like a cloud. Hmmm....So, I fixed this by rolling small balls of fondant in different sizes. Then I bunched them together into the shape I wanted. To finish, I covered the whole thing with a rolled out sheet of purple fondant. The only thing left to do was form it around the balls of fondant and facial expressions. It was truly a fun project cake.
