I have to make my own birthday cake, so I just use it to experiment.
So, I gave BB-8 a shot. It was fun, but The little bugger's got way too much detail, and I had too much to do last week to put all of it on him. But, now I know what to do in case I make another one.
Awesome cake. Doesn't look like you need anymore details. Love to know how you made this cake. Any helpful hints?
Thanks! I used fat daddio's sphere pan's 8" body and 5" head. There are some pictures online of the circles. I had a friend size them on photoshop for me. But, I'm not happy with cutting the fondant with a template. I think I need to pick a round cutter, then size the circles to that. The inside would still have to be hand cut though. And definitely add CMC to the fondant to stiffen it. I tried modeling chocolate first, but it gets more sticky in the fridge, and I had to refrigerate some. I used my pasta cutter for the stripes. Just winged it on the eyeballs (lenses, whatever :) ), as well as the antenna. And looked at a lot of pictures.
I am making a Bb-8 cake as well but I need to price it out first. How much did you charge for this cake? Did you charge for this cake? It looks amazing!
