Framed Rustic Wedding Cake

This was my entry in the North Texas Cake Show. It is a rustic wedding cake that is completely edible except the wires in the flowers. It is essentially a regular tiered cake cut in half to accommodate a smaller number of guests. The backboard is covered in fondant, textured with a burlap pattern and airbrushed. Fondant ribbons were hand painted and a fondant tack made from my own mold was placed at the intersecting pieces. Frame was textured marbled colored fondant and airbrushed in several colors then hand painted to bring out more details. Top tier was airbrushed with a pink pearl color and white cakelace applied over the top. 2nd tier was covered in fondant rope that had several shades of brown mixed together. 3rd tier had a fondant heart textured with wood and scribed initials that were hand painted to bring out the detail. Ruffles were a 50/50 mix of fondant and gumpaste. Separator foam tier for gumpaste flowers Bottom tier which includes cake support and structural support for cake was covered in textured fondant dusted and hand painted. Gumpaste flowers were a mixture of ranunculus, roses, peonies, blueberries, white filler flowers and a mixture of leaves all textured and colored with dusts.
