I made this by using the flat soccer pan and just stacked it to make it look like a real ball. However, it took a whole bottle of terra cotta food coloring to achieve the color.

Looks great. I'm making my first basketball cake tonight. Any advice? Did you use the triple star tip?
I used tip 18, just be sure you have enough terra cotta food coloring and don't get scared when you first add some it looks pink!
