Caleb's Cake

Grooms cake I made for my new son-in-law. He is very advid hunter and fisherman. Everything edible. Tree trunk is actually rice crispie treats (could be cake). But groom loves crispie treats!! Fish is a life size large mouth bass (though the grooms father thought it was a walleye). Along with shot gun shells, deer antler shed, oak leaves, cat tails. The bank of the creek is covered with graham cracker crumbs and chocolate rocks. This was my first time to use pour and pulled sugar for the water and splash. I had the most fun making the fish - I was so worried that it wouldn't look like a real fish since there would be so many fishermen at the wedding!

That is a fantastic cake!  The fish is incredible!!  How in the world did you get the fins to look so real?

Mkanz - I actually made my own molds of the fins from actual taxidermy fins for the ones on the back of the fish.

The others I cut the shape out of gumpaste freehand. And use veining tool to make ridges.

The trick to making them realistic is to make sure that there seems to be motion.  Don't dry flat.  Also use of shading by either airbrushing or using petal dusts.

Hope this helps, its been long time since I made this cake..
