This was my first unusual theme cake, created for an open heart surgeon's birthday. When my coworkers asked for a "heart" cake, I snapped a picture of the heart model we use for teaching with my cell phone...the rest is history. This cake was (and still is) the talk of the hospital! Chocolate (the doc's fav.!) sponge cake with chocolate buttercream filling, buttercream icing for decorating, and red licorice "vein grafts".....Oh yeah, my daughters dog ate one layer of the cake @ 9p the night before, before I decorated it. Needless to say, it was a short night of sleep.
