Thank you everyone! They are almost the size of real hot dogs. My son wanted them to look as real as possible. His friends thought they were real. We split them into thirds because they were so big. I'm sure they'd be cute small too but my son was really pushing for life like hot dogs.
I used Penny's cookie recipe. It was so simple. Just roll out some dough and use a finger to make the bun look like a bun. I used a combination of red, brown and yellow to get the hot dog color. I baked them according to the recipe and then added sesame seeds to the buns. Red and yellow frosting for the mustard and ketchup. It was so quick and easy.
