I need help with attaching purse handles to the sides of a cake. This cake was a last minute freebee that i'm making for a purse party. The handles are fondant rolled into "logs" about 1/4" round and need to be attached 1/2 way up the cake sides. The cake is a standing cake. I was thinking about using clear straws and cutting the straw in 1/2 to make like a cradle and inserting that into the cake to just sit the handles on. I can put the handles on after placing the cake at the party. Any other suggestions?

Thanks
Debbie

Roll some fondant around some thin wire.. That way you can mold it into handles, leaving an inch or so bare and that would be where you would insert into the cake.. Good Luck

Thanks briansbaker. I already have the handles made. They do have wire in them but I didn't leave any wire sticking out of the ends of the handles. Any other suggestions?

Thanks

Can you add a toothpick to the ends of each side then insert that into the cake sides? If your fondant is already dry maybe you could use some water to soften it and then insert the toothpicks. Let us know how it turns out!! thumbs_up.gif

Thanks - I'm afraid that if I do that, the weight of the handles will push the toothpick down along the side of the cake. Know what I mean?

I should have pics to post this weekend or early next week along with the halloween cakes i'm making for my son's class.

Thanks again
Debbie
