Okay, so I'm doing a Mexican theme birthday cake, and, of course, I've set my mind on including maracas. Now I know why everyone uses plastic ones! They look soooo simple, but they keep coming out looking so childish! I'm at the handle part now, and I'm having trouble getting it to stick right without looking either like a baby rattle or a bad imitation of a maraca. Oh well, just wanted to vent. Thanks for listening. Wish me luck....

Don't be too hard on yourself! I bet that once you put all the elements on your cake, your maracas will look really great. One element by itself sometimes looks a bit weird. Hang in there and remeber to have fun!
What are you making them out of? The maracas in this picture are molded chocolate. The maracas were molded in an egg shaped candy mold and the handles are ---- are you ready for this? ----- cigars!!!! It's just the baby announcement cigar mold. Made the best handles and everyone thought they were a riot!

Oooh, I looked at your cake when I was trying to get inspiration, but I had no idea how you did those -- they're fabulous! I don't have the egg shape mold. I wonder if our local cake store has them??? Where did you get them?
Thanks so much everyone for the replies. I feel a little better now -- I'll just keep plugging away!
