I need some advise on drawing straight lines on cakes. I decorated a cake in the shape of a guitar and the strings were very difficult. Any ideas?

I can't pipe a straight line to save my life--I use unflavored dental floss to mark the lines and pipe over them.

I can't draw straight for anything! If you have a laser level you can place it next to the cake and it will shile a straight line for you to follow. i like this way because it doesn't leave any marks on the cake.

I have the best luck with straight lines if I move my arms rather than just the bag or my hands...does that make sense? My SIL made a guitar cake and she used strands of dried spaghetti for the strings.

Ok you guys are going to laugh...but I find holding my breath while I draw the line helps make it straighter somehow! icon_confused.gificon_redface.gif Also as Lisa said, move your arms, not just your hands. Go ahead and laugh!

I always draw straighter if I hold the icing bag higher up (not close to the cake) which helps with the whole move your arms, not hands thing, and sort of let the icing 'drop' onto the cake and move quickly... the slower I go the more time for wiggling!

i also can't draw a straight line to save my life. peacockplace i love the idea of the laser level. My hubby got one of those for christmas last year, I think i may have to confiscate it and have it magically appear with my other cake tools. icon_wink.gif

How does the laser level work exactly? (I've never even seen one!) icon_smile.gif
