I have a really strange question:

I am thinking about making a cake in the shape of a big Candy Corn for my son's 1st grade Halloween Party. I was going to carve the shape, then cover in fondant. But.....(LOL)....I got to thinking that if I broke apart the colors in the candy corn, I could melt them down and roll it out and cover it with that, couldn't I? icon_biggrin.gificon_redface.gif Isn't candy corn just made out of corn syrup and sugar w/ flavoring and color? I guess it would take a whole lot of candy corn and breakin' em up, huh? Anybody got a recipe for candy clay that could be used for this? I hate the taste of fondant!!! icon_sad.gif

Any input would be appreciated! (And, NO, I'm not nutso!!!)

Instead of candy clay...how bout MMF? With some added butter flavor, I think it might even taste a little like candy corn.

Here's the recipe for candy clay if you want to try that...

Thank you, Lisa.

Do you think it would be practical to put the candy clay on the cake. Would I have to make a ton of it? (I think cake will be about a 9 x 13 or maybe larger.)

Candy clay should work fine on the cake. One batch should roll out to cover most of a 9x13 surface, but have some extra candy just in case. If you make one batch of yellow and one of orange, you should have more than enough for the cake.

I would join the three pieces on the work surface to close the seams, then transfer it over the cake.

Be sure to take pictures.

Hi,
This isn't fondant or candy clay, but there's a cute candy corn cake in the 2006 Wilton Yearbook that looks really easy. I'll try and attach a picture.
And here's a recipe for Rice Krispies covered with candy melts from the Wilton site:

Good Luck,

You could also try making your own fondant. I don't know what brand you've tried but it can be really good. The Wilton brand is the worst and a lot of people think fondant is awful because they've had that. I use Satin Ice brand and it is yummy! It has a vanilla flavor but you can flavor it too.
Just a thought,
Heather
