Hello. I am making a wedding cake for dh's nephew for free. Sis-in-law bought all the stuff for me and told me just to do whatever I want... now she decided at the last minute that she doesn't want the idea I came up with, she wants roses cascading down the cake. I guess it will be simple enough but since I've never done this before I want to check out some pictures first and I am having a hard time finding pics, search engines don't seem to bring up what I am looking for, can anyone help? TIA!

Here's one from another decorator's website that I really like. I've printed this pic off and it's in my book of "other decorator's cakes" that I show to brides for ideas.

Thank you!
Another thing I forgot to mention, I am using real red roses, and she said she doesn't want them piled on top of the cake really high (the idea that I had, like the gerbera daisy cake in my gallery), but it won't look right without at least some flowers on top of the cake, will it? icon_confused.gif

There are some pics in the gallery. I typed in cascading roses and got 23 pics. Including some real roses.

They don't have to be piled high on top of the cake. Here's one of mine using real flowers .... not roses, but you get the idea..... and there is just one or two small ones on top of the cake. It can be simple and elegant.

Fooby, those are some great examples! Gorgeous work, all of them!

Thank you all for your help! I just get stressed every time I make a cake, especially one where I'm doing something I've never done before!

If you look in my photos, there's one called something like "Stacia's wedding cake" that has cascading gumpaste roses. You could do the same thing with real roses. All you would need to do is insert the stems into flower picks and then position the picks where you want them on the cake. Keep in mind, though, that if the roses are really heavy and their stems are weak, you may have to stick wires into each stem to help them "stand up" properly. Some varieties of roses will hold themselves up, but others tend to weaken and droop a bit in their "neck" area.
