My husband's cousin asked me if I would do her wedding cake and wants to meet with me soon about ideas and such. I wanted to have a sample of fondant for her and her fiance to try for flavor and texture. I really don't want to order 5lbs of it b/c usually I make MMF, but I wouldn't do this for a wedding cake.
Any ideas where I could get maybe 2 lbs or less of the stuff for fairly cheap? I checked a few sites that I knew had it but most were selling it in 5lbs or more. Also, does the white come in vanilla and white chocolate or am I imagining things in my memory?
Thanks,
Dia
They've always been very friendly to me.
I'm not sure where you are in Maryland but Kake Kraft Korner in Glen Burnie carries SI on the shelf along with Choco Pan.

Unfortunately, Satin Ice wasn't that friendly. I emailed about a sample to try. I got this in return:
"What type of business do you have? Generally we sell through distributors unless you are interested in a very large quantity."
Wow ~ what a response! I wonder why they would say that when they sell it over the internet. AND I wouldn't consider 5lbs. a large quantity when they are refering to selling through distributors. I'm sorry you had such a hard time with them. I would sure love a sample myself. I keep hearing all these great reviews about them but I'm still hesitant to buy 5 lbs. to try.
Country Kitchens sells 2 LB container for $12.00 plus shipping. They also carry Chocpan which is suppose to be good.
Choco-pan, via Sweet Art Inc, does have a sampling of all the flavors made for 1$ but with 5$ shipping (0-25$). I just ordered the sample plus a 4lb pail of the bright white for $25.50. I figure its an investment that will hopefully work out better than some of the Wilton items I've invested in. ![]()
After reading this post last week I sent request to the people at Satin Ice for a sample. I let them know I am thinking of opeining a Cottage Bakery in Ohio and do not have any local vendors of Satin Ice. All true. They responded a sample would be sent out that week. Well FedEx just dropped me off a sample, it is a 9.7 oz. sealed sample of the vanilla. I did this because I really did want to sample it and do want to open a Cottage Bakery in Ohio out of my home. No one sells it locally and the cost to ship is pretty high. I do use MMF as well but do not want to limit myself.
Just wanted to share my experience, maybe I got them on a better day? It is great stuff!

I was told the same thing over the phone when I called them a while back about getting samples. She also said that they don't do samples anymore, because they are too time consuming for them to put together along with all of their wholesale orders. She told me that they have an agreement with their distributors that they will only sell to distributors. I even told them that I am in the process of opeing my own business, and can't get it anywhere locally.
I just got a sample of the Satin Ice in the mail yesterday, so they must have changed thier minds! She took my name and address so she get get a store to send me a sample ,but they sent it to me instead. The ysent the white ,and I really wanted to see the colors too, but it is delicious! I couldn't believe how much better it tasted than mmf! I'm going to make a very small cake to cover with the sample so I can see what it's like to work with.
I'll have to get a sample too.
It tastes really good. I haven't worked with it yet, but when I felt it, it feels like it should be pretty easy to work with. I usually use mmf, but I'm wanting to get into weddings in my area, and would like a fondant that is more "grown up" than mmf. It has a very nice vanilla flavor.
