Hey SweetTreasures,

YES! hahaha, all the Time.. but as long as I clean as I go, I am fine. If I have a cake that is not last minute I make my icing a few days ahead of time or at least the day before, because its so time consuming. & I find that really helps.oooo & I try not to go to bed with anything in my sink.. it makes for a GRUMPY ME the next morning.. hahaha

Yep. One thing I found easier when cleaning greasy tips and pastry bags is to put them in hot soapy water for a while. When you take them them out, they are a lot less greasy!!!!

I hate the clean up after doing a cake. Luckily my mom comes over to help whenever I have a cake to do. She cant do any of the decoratingl, but she keeps everything cleaned up as I go and helps with the little things. I think she is my biggest fan. When I have a cake I am not happy with, she thinks it is great. Moms you gotta love em.

OOOH frogfiend! You are LUCKY! My mom is my biggest fan too but she won't do my dirty dishes for me!
I TOTALLY agree with SweetCreations! My plan is always to make everything ahead of time and clean as I go. As long as I can at least do everything in advance, clean up is not too bad. I have a cake for this weekend and last night I made a batch of royal, colored it in 5 different colors, and made 5 batches of BC. Clean up was a breeze b/c I did it as I went along! Not bad at all!
Where's the cake-clean-up fairy when you need her though?? icon_evil.gif

I think the consensus will be that most people hate to clean! If you quickly wash each piece after you use it, you'll always have them ready to use and you'll be happier while working. I, personally, hate to see a full sink!

This is just one of those things that you gotta do!

I have duplicates of most of my tips, so I don't clean them until I'm all done. Then I put them in a glass bowl, cover with soapy water, and put them in the microwave for 2 minutes. I rinse them off and repeat the process if needed. I never have to use my tip brush anymore. I put the couplers in with the tips when they are getting washed too (but not royal couplers as I don't want them getting greasy!).

I mostly use parchment or disposable bags for decorating, so those I toss.

I'm with Marialovescakes - I pop everything into hot soapy water, which makes it easier when I'm ready to clean up. I use the tip I got from CC about putting the tips in the microwave - works like a dream, then I pop whatever else I can in the dishwasher.

I'm assuming these are the metal tips? You can put these in the microwave? I haven't heard of this tip before, can someone elaborate?
Thanks

Metal tips in the microwave? icon_confused.gif
I wouldn't think being covered by water would make a difference. That sounds scary. Wow, who knew?

suposedly the water acts as an insulator. or maybe it just puts out the sparks..lol? I don't know but tons of people swear by it, adn I'll try it as soon as I have dirty tips.

Metal in a microwave can be safe under certain conditions.
Depends on the shape of the object. how close to the walls of The microwave he object is, etc.

If the object is completely underwater it will be fine.

Have you ever seen those microwave ovens with The metal probes and racks?

icon_razz.gif I was not going to try this...but I did! Wow! The first time though, I added a wee bit too much soap...but I got a really clean microwave from it! The cup was way too full of water, then with the extra soap, it overflowed...but just a little... icon_surprised.gif
I used the pyrex 1 cup measuring cup, glass and microwave safe, added about 3/4 full of water, drop...or two maybe, of soap, several tips that I squished out the extra icing out of, put in for several minutes and had it overflowing in no time!
So...I repeated it with no soap and those little suckers come out nice and clean, but very hot indeed! thumbs_up.gif

But I would recommend smooshing out the extra icing first, makes an oily film if there is too much.

i use the microwave method! works like a dream!!! as long as the tips are completly submerged... no problem. just put tips in a microwave safe container (i use a plastic cup) add a couple drops of Dawn, add enough water to submerge tips but don't fill cup completely. microwave 2 minutes. careful, contents will be hot after microwaving. rinse tips and done!!!

So how many minutes in the micro? 'A few minutes' sounds scary....

I put mine in for 2 minutes. I've tried a coffee mug but it overflowed and I wound up with sparks, so now I always use a thick-walled pint glass. I can fill it halfway with water, a couple drops of dish soap and it doesn't overflow.

Bonus to this cleaning method - it softens all the crud that builds up inside your microwave so you can wipe it out easily when you pull your tips out.

I hint I found on here (or maybe on the Wilton site) for cleaning the featherweight bags is to turn them inside out and clothespin them to the dishwasher rack.

I always do at least some of my cleanup gradually cuz I only have one bowl for my mixer. I count it as a mixed blessing. If I had more than one, I'd have a sink full when I'm done with my cake.

I agree....I always rinse everything while it's still wet. That way it's really easy to keep everything clean as I go.
