Hi Everyone,
Barnes and Noble is giving teachers an extra discount off everything today, and I wanted to get some decorating books. I was wondering if you could list the book that you can't live without and maybe a little bit of explanation why. Hopefully, this will give me a little guidance, since I can only get 2 or 3 tonight.

Hello,
I don't have a lot of books myself but I have two Debbie Brown books that I love. Here instructions are very detailed with great illustration. Her cakes are all fondant and sculpted so they are more advanced (I've actually never made one!) but they are beautiful. Other than that my wishlist is very long! I've heard good things about Colette Peters' books, Kate Sullivan's book, Kerry Vincent's book. My suggestion would be to go onto Barnes and Noble's website and put cake decorating into the search or an author's name that you know. That's what I did.
Hope you find something you enjoy,
Heather
Toba Garrett's book. It is a must-have for me. There are some great recipes in it for glace and icings. But it gives you step-by-step instructions and it's taught me a lot! It is pretty inexpensive too!
I just recently checked out "The Well Decorated Cake" by Toba Garrett. What a great book. I have ordered it on line and saved several dollars. I would recommend this book-very detailed.
Any of the Wilton books are really good, but I'm not sure if they sell those there... many here like the Collette Peters books. She does some really fabulous work... as far as cookbooks, I'd recomment The Cake Mix Doctor. It's a cookbook that shows you how to add ingredients to box cake mixes to make them taste like homemade...
I really don't think you could go wrong with any books.... but then, I'm a book fan and I have hundreds of them lol
Thanks for all of your suggestions. Like you I'm a book addict, but I am trying to narrow tonight's splurge to just a couple of really good books. Now the question is, if they have any of them at the store or not.

This maybe a little late but they have a book on sugarpaste that looked pretty good. These 2 books are expensive but if you want to take a look at them I am sure they have them.
The Professional Pastry Chef & The Advanced Professional Pastry Chef. These are excellent books but as I said they are expensive, I have both I got them off E-Bay they are my bibles so to speak. If you have any intentions on doing things other than cakes they are great.
