I am doing a fire truck theme cake and wanted to do the inside of the cake red but keep it a white cake recipe. Any ideas on how to do this? Can I just add the icing colors into the cake mix?

I did it that way. I wanted one cake pink, the other purple to layer it. So I just added the gel colors and it worked perfectly=) I got my advice from some wonderful CC'er here! Jen

I made a Chicago Bears cake for this evening and used Wilton orange to color the inside and it came out perfect. You should have seen their faces when they cut it!!! Priceless!!

I've done that with the Wilton gels.

I also did this with a white cake before. Just added red food coloring (a lot of it). The child wanted red cake but they didn't want a red velvet. It worked great!

What a cute idea--cakes of different colors inside. I think kids would love it. I'm filing this one in my "have to try" file. Thanks.
