I am making a cake that looks like a couch. where the back is about 2/3 of the cake stood on end to be the back of the couch. I have done the MMF and now it looks like the back want to fall backwards!! How can I stablize this????? Right now it is being held up with a cup and a stack of books! And I just don't know if dowels would work in this situation. Help!

Hi

I would use the wooden dowels, use about 4-5(depending on how big the cake is, you may want to use more.) Just sharpen one end like a pencil and dowel the cake really well.

Hope this helps

When I do 3D cakes I like to make the base at least three boards thick, or use foamcore board....and then I put a couple of sharpened dowels through the cake and into the board. It seems to help.

Also once you get it stabilized, refrigeration will make it travel better as it will stiffen it up real good.

Hope it turns out great!

I made a dump truck that was falling down. I took a cake mix box, unglued the edges, and reformed it (inside out) into a wedge. I put a piece of wide tape along the narrow edge and I put the wedge under the tilting edge of my cake board to stabilize the tilt. Then I taped whatever else I could get to. It worked and the customer even transported it without it falling. Here's a picture of the cake, you can't see the wedge itself, but you can see how the board is tilted!

Thanks everyone!

It is probably a good representation of many DHs around the country watching the Super Bowl icon_lol.gif I know this is how my dad used to watch football!

It's cute. I noticed the cow pillows, they must have gotten a kick out of that.

Thanks!

The cow is actually another dog. I had to put one up there to cover the holes from the dowels that are keeping the back of the couch up, even added a bone to cover one of them (had to get my creative juices flowing to cover all the flaws icon_redface.gif ). And that dog does get on the back of the couch! Not to mention I needed a little somethin' up there to help keep his head from flopping over.
