Here's a picture of my first modeling experience. Mom wanted polar bears and valentines for her little girls 1st birthday cake. I used Lindy Smith's modeling paste recipe and really liked it. I worked from some pictures I found on the internet of some really cute polar bears. I thought they turned out really cute. I have two baby shower cakes to make this week and am excited about trying to model some babies.

Thanks for looking.

Great work! I wouldn't have known it was the first time you modeled something if you hadn't told me!! Those bears are adorable and I love the heart borders!

Your cake is beautiful!!!!! You did an excellent job with the bears! Isn't it fun to make the figures?
I have just gotten into them myself, and I love it! I'm going to have to try that modeling paste, I have only used MMF and candy clay.
Great job!!!!

Your cake is ADORABLE!! Reminds me of those coke commercials with the polar bears.

Stupid question: I've seen that style of lettering before, but don't have a clue what cutters you are using... what are they and where did you get them? Thanks!

BrandiBakes,

I didn't use cutters, but my SugarVeil pen with lettering I did on my computer. It was a little tricky and I found it was easier to apply one letter at a time, because more than on tended to flop and twist. The SugarVeil pen makes it so easy and I really like the glossy finish.

Thanks for looking.

You can check out the "SugarVeil" system at www.sugarveil.com. It's pretty amazing. It is so much easier to write with than bags. You have much more control over the pressure of the icing coming out than with a bag--at least I think I do.

I simply chose a font on my computer that I liked, laid it under a piece of vinyl greased with Crisco (for easy removal) and traced the letters with the pen. After 30-60 minutes, the letters can be removed and placed. They are very flexible, so I found it easier to apply one at a time. Plus, I really the gloss that the icing retains as it dries.

You'll see on the website the many applications it has.
