Check Out My Martini Gift Box Cake!

I went on a ladies only weekend and this is the cake I made for it. Coincidentally, it's also my gift box cake for the Wilton III course. It was half chocolate/half white with chocolate/bourbon/almond icing. The top layer cracked at the seam when I put it on, thank goodness the ribbon hid it completely.
I had a few puckers near the corners, which is part of the reason for the strategically placed olives. They were made with Satin Ice and got gobbled up. The toothpicks are made from fondant with gumpaste added.
This was my first time using high ratio shortening in my BC. I loved it. It made a very creamy texture and cleanup was so much easier than with regular BC, even with half butter (I used half butter in this.)
I got 2 orders from this cake, too. One is for a wedding that will happen who-knows-when and the other is a birthday cake for a friend's hubby's 40th. That one really excites me, because this is a woman that works conventions and special occasions for a living. She's also had a couple of my cakes before, but as soon as she saw this one, she asked me to do her
hubby's b-day. Yippee!!
Thanks for looking & listening,

Thanks everybody. Yes, I had a great time with all the girls. It's something that we do every year and I always look forward to it. Didn't wind up drinking any martinis, though.
Wound up drinking mimosas more than anything else.
I forgot to mention that DD squashed part of the cake before I left the house. She had been so good about not touching it all day long. I'd see her near it, and I'd call her name, and she'd call back to me "don't touch, just look!" At 5:30, 30 minutes before I left the house, she was just looking at it and lost her balance and squashed part of the cake. It wasn't so bad I wasn't able to mostly repair it, and nobody really noticed the giant cracks on the back side of the cake, or the broken bow ![]()
I love the olives. The colors are great also. Great job!!
That's funny you say that Helen, because this was the first cake I did that was really fun to make. There was very little stress after the initial time crunch of trying to get cake & icing done before class, and I just really enjoyed all the little cookie-cutter type stuff, and leisurely sticking them on, and standing back to look and all that. The morning after class I did the 3-D olives, while DD was watching a video, so no stress there either since I gave her a little fondant to play with.
Overall a very enjoyable cake - and I got to eat some, too!!!
