Lisa, but does it use the same cartridges as the 3000, if so then I guess I can keep it...

as I don't have the money to order a new one right now and I don't want to return the 6000 and then get stuck with nothing..lol

Thanks!

Yes...it uses the same cartridges and you should only use 4 cartridges. You're not supposed to print edible images at photo quality which means the other two ink tanks will never be used to print edible images.

The upside is that if you ever decide to stop making edible images, you'll have an awesome photo printer thumbs_up.gif

(just got an IP 3000, still have to order sheets and ink icon_smile.gif

I've tried it and the images aren't anywhere near as good. I wish they were...a lot cheaper. They don't take the ink as well and don't melt into the icing like frosting sheets do. I have had success printing wafer paper leaves though.

I use Kopykake brand inks and frosting sheets...best quality I've found so far. Plus they offer free software with the purchase of frosting sheets that's really useful when you're first starting out.

I really, really wish I understood how everyone's IP3000 Cannon printers work. I'm on my third (or fourth - I can't remember) printer and after three uses, it is now out of order. When not printing, I've put the cleaning cartridges in - I did everything right.

It's been such a pain in my side. I wish there were other brands out there with edible ink. thumbsdown.gificon_sad.gif

After putting in the cleaning cartridges, what did you do? Who do you buy your supplies from? Maybe we can figure it out.

Thank you for your response! I went to the site and read not to print at photo quality also.

The guy at Circuit City told me that the 6000 was the same except that it used 2 more carts than the 3000.

I'm just a little stressed out because NOW I have 3 printers in my house..one for my projects and reports...one that accepts the memory card from my camera, which we have to take photos of every thing we produce and along with the recipes turn it in at the end of classes thats every 22 days..UGH...

and now the edible printer.

Which is a pain because, I already had an edible image printing system that I paid about 1,000 dollars for and it's been in storage out in NY...

Don't you just hate when that happens...lol!

* Diva upset...could've been buying shoes!

Lisa, are you saying not to print photo quality at all on edible images? I just bought the kopykake and have the ip4000. What do you print your images at for the quality setting on the printer???

The 4000 is a 5 cartridge system and you do need to use all 5 for that printer to work. The 6 cartridge that shouldn't be used to print at photo quality because printing at photo quality will use the 2 extra ink tanks but make little to no difference in the quality of the image.

For the 4000, I'd try printing an image at the highest quality setting and then one at the next highest. If there is a noticable difference in the quality of the image, stay with the highest setting.

When you use the photo quality setting you're using too much ink and you have to spend money replacing your inks.

I just bought an ip1500. It has not been set up as yet. Any comments? Is it a good one to have? If not, any suggestions?

Thanks.

Yes...it's a good one to have. It's probably the least expensive one to set up too. Only 2 cartridges so the edible inks and cleaning cartridges are less expensive and the quality of the images will be just as good as a 4 cartridge. I use a two cartridge system and refill my inks..big $ saver.

Does anyone know how many printed sheets you can get out of your inks before you need to buy more ink? I am trying to figure out the cost of a edible printed sheet.

Or..if anyone wishes to share with me their cost..in other words if you sell them..how much do you charge for them.

I'm putting my baby to work, I'm going to offer the services to the students at school...with a discount of course, but I need to figure out how many sheets I can get out of one set of inks.

I've emailed the company, but too excited to wait for an answer and I know you guys can help me out..lol

Thanks!!

( you can PM me if you don't wish to post it here..lol)

I figured mine cost about $3 a sheet to make counting ink used and the frosting sheet itself. $6-$10 always seemed like a fair price to charge but it depends...some images take a lot of time to edit/create and you'll want to charge for your time too.

Just a helpful hint...when you buy your frosting sheets, I think it's better to avoid the shaped ones and just get the 7.5" x 10" sheets. You can print your images and cut them out if you need to and then use the leftover pieces for other projects. They may be too small to run through the printer but you can stamp on them or color on them with edible ink markers. You'll find all sorts of uses.

I buy my ink from Tasty FotoArt. Is that my problem?? I was sooooo careful! After putting the cleaning cartridges in, I ran another sheet on paper to get the ink out, but just one. I store the ink with caps on, in their little baggies, inside a ziplock bag when not in use and the same for the cleaning ones.

When I turn on the printer, it doesn't even move. Just flashes one orange one green. "call for support". Why, oh why, doesn't anyone else have this problem!!!!???? icon_cry.gificon_mad.gificon_sad.gifthumbsdown.gif

Did you try turning it off and then unplugging it and then turning it back on again?

Call for Service isn't a specific error message and it could probably be a number of things but I don't think it was the edible inks as long as everything was installed correctly. I had a problem like this once and it was the print head contacts...they needed cleaning. I just wiped them with a soft cloth and it took care of the problem. I've had my printer a long time though. You went through this with 3 printers? What did Canon say when you called for service?

all three times they had me jump through all of the hoops....turn off, disconnect, unplug, reboot, bla bla bla.

My book says that one flash of each means "an error that requires contacting customer care center". ugh. Been there, done that.

The print head won't even move when I turn it on. I'd have to pull it out physically. I don't know if that would solve the problem? ...just wiping it down.

???

I just got the Kopycake system and spoke to technical sevices about 45 minutes with different questions. He told me not to buy the cleaning cartridges but a cleaning kit which was only $20. He said using this to wipe down the heads works great. He also said you can leave the ink in the printer and it remains air tight.

The inks in the cartridges may remain airtight but the inks left in the nozzles of the print head don't. It's this ink which dries up and clogs the print head when not in use for a while. The cleaning cartridges are a great thing to have to remove this ink from the nozzles but if you know how to manually clean your print head...you're right. You don't need them. Manually cleaning the print head involves more than just wiping it down though. You have to get the ink out of the nozzles too.

You're probably right...awful that it would happen to you so many times. Are they going to send you a 4th or have you given up on them?

I havn't decided. It's been on my hutch blinking away for a week now. I just keep looking at it. I got an order for an edible sheet today and had to say no. This makes me so tired & weary....
