Ok...So I had decided to hire my SIL to paint cakes...Never mix family & business!!! Lesson learned. So I needed to teach myself to paint cakes! UGGG so I dove right in and tried my hand at "painting". I had an order in marcg for a palm tree top tier to a cup cake tower. Here's my first attempt! I do need ya'll to be honest though. Can I pull it off???? The other painted one in my gallery was my sil. Please be honest.
Thanks Lisa thumbs_up.gif

Spottydog you are SO talented! I'm jealous!

Actually I started my first oil painting class on Wed. The whole time I'm thinking "I could use this, and this, and this and have the same results with cake! I had told my instructor that I my goal was to paint on cakes so, she asked me could we do a red rose on a black background. Can we? Uh....YES! Black MMF, red piping gel, and white, white food color. I e-mailed some pics of our CCer's painted cakes and she is HOOKED! So, on our last class? You've got it! It's a CAKE DECORATING CLASS!! LOLL

Again, Great Job Spottydog! YOU GO GIRL!!

Wonderful Work!! I think your client would be thrilled with a cake like that. You have nothing to worry about.

How did you paint it? Is it gel colors? I am curious about this technique.

Thanks everyone. Yup I just went for it. The closest to art I come to is on a flat surface was coloring with my 2 yr old, LOL.

I used americolor gel coloring thinned with vodka.
It was alot of fun.

You can definately pull it off! You're a natural! I actually like yours better than your SIL's. I mean nothing bad about that. I do like the lighthouse but I think it's your color choice that strikes me better. Very good job!

BTW, are these regular cake colors you are using?
