Well, today we are done with our chocolate and sugar showpieces! Whew. We also where able to walk that piece across the out of the labs, across the cafeteria, outisde and into the library where it will live out its sugar life or until they break it.

All I'm saying is that when we were done with the piece, the school newspaper came to take the pictures, they picked ours to photograph and the chef pulled one of the other students from 2 other teams to stand besides the piece...he gave them credit for making OUR piece!

I'm so angry....that's just NOT right!!

All the pieces were beautiful in their own right but if OUR piece was chosen to be featured in the school paper, then I believe WE should've gotten credit for it.

Gosh, why would he do that? I am surprised. Did any of you say anything? Sorry it happened to you, especially when you did all the work.

I agree, that's not right. I'm so sorry. When you work so hard on something, and it turns out so beautiful, you certainly want the credit.

Omg Diva,
I am so SO SORRY to hear that, What a JERK, I am sorry, but you should really tell him that those were your pieces and that you feel that it wasn't right for him to let the Other 2 stand there and have their Pic's made with them, Not only that but it doesn't give you much confidence in him now does it? & what really Bothers me or what I really Want to know is DID they Say " O but WE DIDNT do THESE?" People are Buttheads and sometimes we can See Full Moons a Shining right on top of their heads in the Broad Daylight.
I guess You can see this really bothers me that your credit wasn't given to you. Hope your day gets better.

Oh, I'd be really ticked, too. Is it too late to go to the paper and have them photograph your team in front of it in the library? Heck, if it was me, I might even have to go to the editor.

That would be like interviewing Tom Cruise for Titanic. Stupid!

That's too bad - you are totally right to be upset abut it. At least you can feel proud knowing it was your piece!

NO, not at all the kids (because the are JUST kids) just stood there and let it happen.

What irks me is that my team was RIGHT there!!

We put our heads down and continued to do what we were doing, today is our last day with him and I guess we didn't want to rock the boat.

All I know is that I would NEVER allow that to happen to ANYONE that was in my class..the first thing I would do is pull the people that made the piece right out in front..now if they refused to be in the picture that's all them but at least they get their name in the paper.

I've been having a lot of trouble with some of the men chef's ever since I wrote one up...he cornered me in the cooler and was yelling at me...I felt very impotent and put upon, especially when his face was all in my personal space. All because I told a kid not to put a hotel pan on an open flame. I was correcting a SAFETY ISSUE that he himself had mentioned..that NOTHING goes on the open flames except for pots! The kid cursed at me and when the chef came by I said to the kid, that he should NOT disrespect me, that he didn't have to like working with me, but he was NOT allowed to disrespect me....

I got on the chef's bad side that day I guess.....but I wrote him up for that....( the kid ended up threatening to HIT ME EVEN ...one day he was pulling our breads out of the oven ...for our finals and he dropped the other guys bread...he bent down and picked it up off the floor and when to put it back and I stopped him. HE blamed ME for being in his way and told me that he was glad that we only had 30 more minutes of class because he was ready to Kick my A**...everyone heard this, but I didn't ask anyone to "witness" it. I kept it between me, the kid and the chef....guess who's side the chef took?)

by the way...there are 4 deck ovens and 20 students always milling around the ovens...that day it was just me and the kid...so how was I in his way? He was just a careless kid, it wasn't his bread so he wasn't careful.

wow..that was a long time coming..lol

No, just you guys..today..lol

I did write him up. I sent him an email requesting an apology and gave him 10 days to talk to the boy and get back to me, when he didn't.....

I went to the dept head...and then to the Culinary Departmental head.

I followed protocol, but I guess I shot myself in the foot. A lot of chefs are arrogant, and only want to see me as a Little Old Lady Cake decorator..

They may now baking and pastry..but ladies I kid you not...

You all can decorate rings around most of these guys!..lol

noooo..no..it's the SCHOOL'S paper..lol..sorry to have vented, but...overly tired.

But, I'm over it. Just keep my head down, and count the day till I'm outtie. All I want is my sheepskin...I already have an idea brewing...and one of the chef's is trying to buy a location and has me down to work for her.

My next labs that start tomorrow Friday...ADVANCED CAKE DECORATING...so if I tanked here, I SHOULD be able to make up the grade there.

Not all chefs are so.....(insert your favorite word here..lol)

But big hugs for the support!!!

we already got our grade when this happened, but it's ok...

Like I said, they are just starting out, I've already forgoten 1/2 of what they are just learning..lol

Sometimes, the better part of courage is to know when to use discretion.

I've got an in with the School Dean...and after I bring him some cookies, well....lol

Moving on, I'm over it....Next class starts tomorrow.....ADVANCED CAKE DECORATING...Wooo Hoooo! icon_lol.gif

Pastrydiva I'm really sorry you had to go through this. No one deserves to put so much effort into something without being recognized for it. I wouldn't let them get away with it though. They could've easily done a group shot instead of only a few people!!! It wouldn't have hurt them at all.

Sorry to hear this...hope your next decorating project be a better experience for you.

I'm the type that would have spoken out at the time that this happened...my mother tells me all the time that I am to outspoken for my own good. lol

Sending you a big apology from the inconsiderate jerk of a chef.

I would like to thank everyone...I know that everyone means well, and yes, at one time I would've stalked out and never come back.

But right now, I have to STUFF my feelings and just keep on doing what needs to be done.

I have 22 more days of Lab work...Advance Cake decorating...which is like NOTHING here...

it's about "classical tortes"..ugh..

and then 1 term of academics and I get my sheepskin and I'm outtie...!!!

YEAY ME!

Believe me, there is MORE drama in the Labs than on TV...is just pathetic.

I'm sooo tired of these "CHILDREN"...they think that being a Pastry Chef is a piece of cake!!

Today, first day of class I had to set someone straight. She DID not want to work on my team and was just banging all the pans around and being very aggressive and not talking to me.

I was addressing her several times today and finally walked away saying that it was going to be a long 22 days, that's when I got a response from her....

I had to tell her: LOOK....you may not want to work with me...and YOU DON'T HAVE TO work with me if you want the chef to move you...ASK HIM.

BUT...if you decide to stay, we need to find a way to work together..( I did NOTHING to this young lady...she and my son met in High School and ever since then she's had attitude with me..from the day she found out she knew my son. ) ( I"m like whatever!..she's only 19)

She's practically screaming at me that she needs to do what she needs to do and for me to do what I have to do and to leave her alone, she's had a bad night...( Her little boyfriend didn't come to class today..lol)

I responded, WE ALL HAVE BAD DAYS, SOME OF US BAD LIVES, YOU LEAVE LAST NIGHT AT THE DOOR. WHEN YOU COME HERE YOU COME TO WORK. WE DON'T HAVE TO BE FRIENDLY, BUT WE HAVE TO WORK TOGETHER.

She eventually got her stuff together enough that we managed to make our 16 layers of cake, our 30 quart mixer full of German Butter Cream, our 8 pounds of simple syrup and....our Ganache...woo hoo...

and sit through our lecture of the 5 types of Sponge cakes!!

Finished before any other team..and did our dishes..lol.

We were able to take 30 minutes today and even have lunch.

Now......THAT'S WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT!..YEAH BABY!

Diva...I'm sorry to hear that! It sounds like they've got a bonified boys club (we have one at our school too). THey don't like strong women. Just stick to your guns. With that kid's attitude, he'll be washing dishes in no time while you are cheffing at your own restaurant. No employer will put up with an attitude like that. Reputations get around.

As far as the chef is concerned, I"d agree...you are almost out. I would maybe mention it to the director of the paper or even the school. Nothing may happen, but its worth a chance. Maybe they can compromise and put in a description of the names of the students who created the piece.

Elle, I thought about emailing the kid that is writing the article and giving him our groups name, that is the best compromise that I"ve come up with.

No, this is a girl...aaaaaaaaand...she has a job and is some of the chef's pets..

But, I don't mind it, like I said.....at school, the emphasis is on production not creativity...but the tassle is always worth the hassle!

You can always use it for salary leverage if not hing else..lol

I already know that at this very moment, I can be an EXECUTIVE CHEF ASSISTANT at some big hotel with the experience I already posses...

With my degree.....I can be the boss...

Diva...

You go girl!!

(BTW, I meant the kid who threatened to Kick your arse...sounds like quite an arse himself.)

As for the girl...ugh!! You just learn to laugh at the teenage quest for dramatic situations and highly unjustified sense of self-righteousness...if not, you lose your mind!!!! I am so used to teenagers hating me that it's laughable.....especially since they can get over it in two minutes flat. They know how to play the victim and revel in it!!! Not much you can say will change their minds. I think you should really lather on the BEE-OCH so that they get an unsheltered taste of what the world is like and that people actually have expectations of them.

Ugh, now you've got me rantin'!!!!
Good luck with it.

Hi Diva

Which school are you going to. Is it the one in North Miami Beach. If so, who is your favorite teacher. You can PM me the answer if you want.
