I was just wondering if anyone knew any info about the instructors. My local AC Moore is looking for one and my husband wants me to check into it...I told him I don't really have any experience plus I'm really not that good.......but just for couriousity reasons.....does anyone know how much they make...also there's a sign on bonus...anyone know how much?
Thanks!
hey there,
i don't know a whole lot about the pay, but as far as i know there is no sign on bonus or anything of that nature... the pay is proportional to the number of students that you teach at any given time... though one of the current wilton instructors can correct me if i'm wrong ![]()
if you're interested, you should check out the pre-screening form they have at www.wilton.com perhaps it can shed some light for you...
cheers!

I am in the process of becoming an instructor myself. The pay is based on the amount of students in the class and you need to work with Michaels or whatever store you apply at to schedule classes. I was told we are required to do at least 1 in-store demo a month. You also set your own schedule. There is no bonus to sign on but if you do apply, have photos of your work.
I do believe completing Wilton courses 1-3 is a prerequisite. My instructor said to keep our certificates so we could prove that we've taken the classes in case we wanted to teach.

Wilton will ask you questions such as when did you take your classes, Which classes did you take ,Have you taken any of the project classes. It is important that you have alot of practice before you try to teach the classes because students ask alot of questions ,not all of which are covered in the Wilton curriculum. Wilton however does do an excellant job in preparing you to teach. They provide you with teaching insructional dvds that help alot. Aside from the pay there are great bonuses such as discounts on merch and masters classes at the Wilton facility, great incentives , prizes and other goodies. There is some paperwork involved to get your pay but it is worth it.
Wilton does offer a sign-on bonus for stores that are pressed for an instructor. You will get either a $50 or $100 Wilton gift certificate after teaching and tracking your first Course I. It's really nice because you can combine that with the 40% discount Wilton instructors get on merchandise ordered from the Wilton website. ![]()

I'm more towards the Johntown--Altoona area in PA
Thanks everyone for the response. The reason I asked about the sign-on bonus...was when I was in the store the other day..they were announcing it. They said they needed a cake instructor and there was a great sign-on bonus....I was just too chicken to ask AC Moore at the time.
Thanks everyone!
I just completed all three classses last year. My instructor contacted me yesterday because she is needing to step down. I am a little nervous about the idea, becuase I don't have a lot of experience, but neither did she and she did a good job teaching us. I went to wilton.com this morning and filled out a screen form.
I took the classes at Michaels. There is also a Hobby Lobby opening soon, so maybe I can teach there. Who knows! I think it would be interesting to teach a class, as it would also be a learning experience too.
Good luck to you weberm05!
I wish I got a sign on bonus when I started teaching.
My advice is to really go over the pay chart closely when you start. It was not fully explained to me, so I was a bit disappointed at the way they do the pay scale.
If you really love the idea of teaching and keeping up with your skills, it's a great little job. I've enjoyed it very much, and the 40% off all Wilton supplies is a nice perk. Plus, you get other certificates as well.
I had to send in pictures of various cakes for a supervisor of Wilton to check on, and they do require competency on certain techniques. I would imagine that it would help immensely if you have taken the actual classes.
Good Luck.
Angie
In addition to all the above perks, every year there is an instructors annual meeting in which you can receive numberous freebies. New items coming out and any supplies used to teach new skill sets are given to you during these meetings. Last year I came home with over $100 worth of product.
