I have been making cakes for about 2 years now, but I am self trained. I just started fooling around and figured most of it out. My question is, do I always have to use a heavy pound cake when I am using fondant to cover it? I love working with fondant, but I am getting sick of the same old pound cake. Also, I saw somewhere an explanation of the abrevations on this site. Does anyone know where they are? Thanks so much, and I just love this site...the warning in the corner is soooooo right...I AM ADDICTED! Thanks again Donna icon_biggrin.gif

Eww. pound cake. I've never used that, you can use any type of cake.

And for the abbreviations, look in the "General" thread and it should be near the top.

You can use fondant on any kind of cake! That reminds of of what my Wilton instructor told us, that you had to use a pound cake with the 3D cake pans, I made it for the Thomas & Percy cakes in my gallery, the first cakes I ever made. It was horrible, lol.

Welcome! And use whatever cake you want! Pound cake is yummy by itself, not sure I would want fondant or any icing on it... icon_biggrin.gif

dmq1298,
Welcome the CC family. I have to go along with everyone else, I think you can use fondant on any type of cake. My first fondant covered cake was a white cake and my second was a chocolate. I didn't have any problems with either. HTH (hope this helps)

Wow, thank you all so much! I was afraid that the fondant would be too heavy for a regular cake. I am so gonna go and try that. But the cake I am making right now is a castle cake, and there is only buttercream on it with the fondant sides and turrets. I will take any tips anyone has on that too! icon_biggrin.gif Thanks again Donna

PS I am printing out the list of abrevations...thanks again
