Hi- I am making a red colored fondant cake and need to paint on it.  my question is how or can I even paint on the red fondant and the design i am going to paint show up? I am wanting to paint green, blue, and purple. What can I use to paint on the red fondant and have it show up?

can you pipe your picture on first with buttercream then paint that? use a crusting buttercream, aka american buttercream of course -- when it is partially set up like after five to ten minutes you can pat the piped area down flat with a rolled up smooth uber clean towel or smooth paper towel -- then paint on that -- and just barely pipe it on and allow a little room to grow for the patting it down -- or maybe would fondant cut outs work at all?

maybe those ideas will spark an idea for you -- whacha painting?
