I’ve posted on Facebook kakeladi/lynne. But unless you “follow “ me on fb, the link won’t work. But I could certainly post.

I baptized my children when they were a few days old... A guarantee they will not run all over church ;)

How is an adult baptism? They do it in the Catholic church for converts in the Eve of Easter, but with the kiddos never had a chance to attend.

And you Sandra, how was it in you case?... sound silly to ask, were you dressed on a robe? a bathing suit? Were you the only one? was a lot of people attending? Do you have a party with cake afterwards? was the water cold? a turbulent river?

Tell us about it!

Anna, it was already a rare thing in the Methodist church, to be immersed rather than sprinkled, but I wanted to be baptized.  Our little, country church was tiny and we did not have a baptismal, so the old fashioned way, the creek it was!  The creek ran all through our community and provided us with a lot of summer entertainment (swimming).  Brother Hocker selected a spot that was about waist deep on him (probably one of our swimming holes) and chest deep on me.  I wore a white dress, but did remove my shoes before entering the water.  It was summer, so the water was a comfortable temperature.  Brother Hocker placed a white cloth over my face and bent me gently backwards over his arm.  One might think it would be just a quick dunk, but I was beginning to be greatful that I was a good swimmer and could hold my breath for a long time, since he spoke for about 30 seconds before bringing me back up.

Were there a lot of people?  Every member of our church was present on the creek banks, but probably only about 40 people.  Like I said, the church was tiny.  There was no celebration afterwards, just congratulatons from everyone present.

In summary, it was wonderful and I would not have had it any other way.

Reggie

At my church we don’t baptize children, we dedicate them to the Lord. Some families have a small celebration afterwards. And then as adults, you can decide to get baptized after receiving Christ. We have a very large inflatable pool, and the candidate gets completely immersed. My previous church didn’t have an infallible pool, so we got baptized at the local pool. I had a bathing suit covered in a robe.
