Hey everyone! New Member here! I am glad to be here

As my first question here...May i ask. How do you guys practice icing and decorating your styrofoam cakes? Do you still use buttercream, whipped cream or royal icing?

That is quite expensive to do right? Is there a cheaper industrial material out there that has the consistency of buttercream or frosting or cream that can be used to practice making and decorating styrofoam cakes?

The only thing i know that is slightly cheaper is making use of lard/shortening...but that is still a waste of edible materials and i would still be needing to mix it with powdered sugar which entails wasting the ingredient.

So..

1. Is there an industrial material out there that can make as a practice cream or buttercream?

2. If there isn't any..Any other suggestions to use to practice frosting and decorating styro cakes without the need of using edible items?

Some people use drywall mud, also called spackling.  You will probably not be able to reply to this post, but you are welcome to start a new thread and refer back to the original.

This site is falling apart.  The owners abandoned it over a year ago and it has been over run with spam and trash.  There is nothing we can do about it.  So sorry.

I use “buttercream “ that I make w/shortening & sugar—no flavoring.   Once finished & pictures taken just scrape it off and reuse over and over until it gets grimy   I even bought the cheapest shortening I could find

That is a good idea, Lynne!  Never thought about using it over.
