Hey all, so I wanted some opinions here, last year I had a customer who was somewhat difficult, it was a 3 tier cake, she changed her theme, 2 twice, her design 3 times, and her flavors 3 times (1st all vanilla, 2nd 1 tier vanilla, 3 strawberry, 3rd all 3 vanilla) anywho, once she received the cake, she loved it..yada yada, the following morning she messaged me and said, she wanted the whole cake strawberry, and I did one tier vanilla, I told her sorry, in could make her a strawberry cake no charge, or provide her with a credit on another cake, she said she felt a refund was was fair, blah blah, ..I ended up sending her $25, ( mind you, she got a 8/10 with a all cake basketball on top for $190) . So she contacts me this week to make her son's 1st birthday cake, I have not replied, I don't have any plans on doing this for her, but I wondered what others would do?

She wasn't worth it the first time and she won't be worth it this time.  Normally, I'd just tell her that I was booked.  In these times, I'd tell her that I'm not doing cakes due to the pandemic.

Sounds like you won’t do it but maybe if you want make a contract that you both sign w/terms of NO changes

I tend to agree with maybenot, not the kind of customer you need in your life.  Even if she paid you a decent price for the cake, she would probably still drive you nuts.  The virus is a graceful way to decline.

emalliett Run, run as fast as you can from this customer. Besides the hassle she gave you, sounds like you lost money in the bargain. I too would say I’m no longer baking for customers during the pandemic.

Forget  doing the cake, why put yourself thru all the stress. Some customers are never pleased .

If it were me, I'm booked. If they're difficult once, they will be difficult every time most likely, AND it's for a first birthday? She's going to be a maniac lol This is one that would be on the "no cake for you" list.

I have zero tolerance for ungrateful people, so she is a definite NO for me.

Yuppers Sandra, me too.  If someone isn’t appreciative of the work you have done, finding fault at every turn, then the red light goes on for me!!!

"Sorry, I'm completely booked up", it works great for anything you don't want to do. First birthdays by picky moms are the worst!!!! Non-picky moms are fine. The picky ones I spend way too much time going over details with them with so many calls, texts, emails, that the time invested is just not worth it.
