First, I am so glad I found this site! Now down to business...
I have seen several older posts regarding how much to make, how to display, what to sell etc etc about farmers markets and/or festivals; however, I do not see any recent information or updates on how those folks did.
I will be a vendor at our neighborhood street festival this year (excited and nervous all at the same time). It is June 6 in Maryland, for one day from 11-6. I am covered under the cottage food laws so I do not need any additional licenses etc.. There are an expected 9,000 attendees, lots of kid things, lots of food trucks but not many home bakery items. I understand that people will want the traditional "street foods", I mean who wouldn't, but I am trying to figure out just what types of things I should bring and how much. I recently started my home bakery so this is more about exposure and getting more business than anything.
This is what I was thinking of doing:
Cupcakes - 3 or 4 flavors
Regular size cupcakes - single packed
Mini cupcakes - in a 4 pack or 6 pack (this will depend on if I decide on 3 flavors or 4 flavors)
Cookies
Chocolate Chip and Snickerdoodle - thinking about doing them in a three pack and maybe singles
Was also thinking of maybe doing them in a sandwich form - these I would make minis and fill with buttercream
I was also going to do two family favorites - ricotta cookie and nut cups
Brownies
Classic chocolate and classic blondie
Possibly a bar of some sort but not 100% on that one yet.
Was thinking about maybe doing an assorted cookie/brownie box with the above items also. And I was going to do 2 cake dummies decorated.
This is all things I am already making so no issues there. I was wondering if this seems like a good assortment. Also wondering what advise you have about how many of each to make and also any ideas on storing items. I will have a tent and if I really needed to, I have a generator that I could borrow from my brother-in-law. The buttercream I make is shelf stable and very reminiscent of a highly rated one I have seen on my search here.
Any other insight anyone has will be greatly appreciated!
Thanks~ Angela
I only did one similar street fair with much smaller turn-out. What I did not count on is that people were interested almost exclusively in what they could eat right then and there so your list of offerings sounds good to me. Consider offering dipped (in choco) pretzel rods - then add sprinkles or similar; maybe store bought vanilla wafers , ritz or saltine crackers dipped then deocrated lightly (a flower or piped design) ; make simple candies - coconut ("haystacks"); or chopped nuts; or crushed candies mixed w/choco; even mixed cereal, tiny pretzels, & nuts coated lightly with choco bagged . These can be kept in ice chest/coolers -- have no idea what temps in Maryland is like that time of yr :)
Oh forgot to mention that since you are new here you will not be able to reply to any post for about 30 days so if you have anything more to say/comment on just start a new post referring to whatever it is your commenting on in the subject line. (Example: Urgent Vanilla cake recipe part 2)
