Hello sorry it took so long to get back to you —you posted in the late night here in the US I see this is your first post on here as such you will not be able to reply to any post for about 30 days so if you want to comment on any post just start a new post referring to this one Now to answer your question : not sure if you are referring to “layers “ or “tiers” since you mentioned putting buttercream in between If you have 2cakes that you will use as one once put together then no board is used If the 2 are used as 2 separate tiers then yes there needs to be a board & there needs to be dowels to support that one on top so it does not crush the bottom one You should check out the many YouTube videos on how to stack cakes to prevent a disaster!
