So I got commissioned to do this cake and I've got about two weeks to figure it out. I'm just looking for some execution help from some more experienced custom cake artist!

How Would You Do This 'massage Wand' Cake?

Isn't it super fun? LOL Anyway! What I was thinking was making the handle/handheld part several layers of 6 inches found cakes and stacking them vertically to carve and then shaving one side flat to lay it horizontally? (Do you guys think I would need to run a dowel down the center for stability? Or would some good frosting be enough to hold them upright? ) Then I was thinking the blue part that connects the head would have to be made of rice Krispies because cake would be too heavy to 'hover' in the center like that and probably fall?

Also, would you guys cover it in fondant once you laid it down or would you cover it while it was vertical?

Then the 'head' of the wand would be some 8-inch rounds that I carve and whatnot much like the other

I also think I'll need a custom cake board seeing as they don't make sturdy rectangle boards like this? Unless they do?!

I'm open to any and all suggestions and advice. c:  Or if you think my plan is good let me know! Please and thank you.

Since I haven't done but a couple of sculpted cakes and I haven't presented you with any ideas.  BUT.........since no one else has I'll jump in w/my 2 cents:)

I would make this only if it were flat on a board - not standing up.  How could it stand with the end of the 'handle' tapered like that?? Welllll.....if it were stacked up on a PVC pipe that is screwed onto a board & the cakes stacked/pushed down thru it  maybe........  so back to my way:)  I'd make many 6" rounds either cut off a portion to make a flat area or cut them in 1/2 & stack icing filled - taper the size of the rounds towards the end (4 or5"ers) then back to one 6".  For the head make the 6" rounds w/a bowl shape on top; for the neck - rice cereal treats    If presented "2-d" you would not need to dowel anywhere along the length.
