DD wants a geode cake for her bday in a few weeks (she tells me now
). I've never made one. Seems pretty straight forward-which means ill screw it up. lol. I've googled and searched on here-surprisingly there's not a lot- and I've seen done with attaching the rock candy with buttercream, piping gel, and isomalt.
In your experience whats the best sticky stuff? I was thinking of just doing buttercream, but also will have to make it in parts so......there's that. She doesn't really like fondant and the last fondant cake I did, the kids just peeled it off and threw it away (Wilton, not anything homemade). Any suggestions? I still have two weeks until her actual birthday-but she'll be with her dad so its really 3ish weeks.
TIA
Since you are planning to make a buttercream cake anyway, just carve out your space for the crystals, coat it with buttercream and stick on the crystals.
