DD wants a geode cake for her bday in a few weeks (she tells me now ). I've never made one. Seems pretty straight forward-which means ill screw it up. lol. I've googled and searched on here-surprisingly there's not a lot- and I've seen done with attaching the rock candy with buttercream, piping gel, and isomalt.
In your experience whats the best sticky stuff? I was thinking of just doing buttercream, but also will have to make it in parts so......there's that. She doesn't really like fondant and the last fondant cake I did, the kids just peeled it off and threw it away (Wilton, not anything homemade). Any suggestions? I still have two weeks until her actual birthday-but she'll be with her dad so its really 3ish weeks.
Since you are planning to make a buttercream cake anyway, just carve out your space for the crystals, coat it with buttercream and stick on the crystals.
If any don’t stick where you want them use melted candy melts/chocolate
