Hello!

I am soon to ice my Christmas cake with fondant icing (applied marzipan a couple days ago). Following this I plan to decorate with cookie cutter shapes made using rolled out fondant icing.

I am not sure which of the following I do:

a) Apply freshly cut shapes to rolled icing freshly applied to cake.

b) Allow the shapes to dry and then apply to rolled icing freshly applied to cake.

c) Allow the fondant icing on the cake to dry, allow the shapes to also dry and then apply dried shapes to dried icing on cake.

I am a novice so unsure the correct process to follow!

You can add shapes to fondant when it is either fresh or dry   Shapes can also be added fresh or dry but probably best when fresh as then there will be some bending allowed w/o cracking   Just lightly brush the back of the cutout  with water & Press it on    If the cutout is extra large/heavy then use royal icing or melted chocolate instead of water
