How would you ice a cake to look like a birds nest? Buttercream piped like twigs or smoothed and then forked? Or fondant rolled out into twigs? Or chocolate shards? I can’t decide which would look most realistic.

Probably fondant rolled into twigs would look more realistic, but you could also use the tiny, stick pretzels or chocolate shards.

I'm a b'cream person - I'd pipe lines over and over - might try w/tip 233 but I think that the 'strings' will be too thin so probably have to use something like a # 4 or 5.

I think buttercream would have been good but I ended up doing fondant which was very easy.

i think I would do a combination of fried crispy chow main noodles (do they still come in a can?) and stick pretzels with the salt speckles rubbed off — dipped in choco
