Hi There,

I recently stumbled upon some old fruit cake recipes and believe that a traditional 'brides cake' or wedding cake as we now know it should be made from a rich fruit cake recipe without cherries. Does know the significance of a brides/wedding cake not having any cherries in it please? I am eager to find out why. Thank you

I am on the wrong side of the ocean to know anything about fruit cakes as wedding cakes.  In the USA, to my knowledge, fruit cakes have never been used for weddings.  It would be interesting to know the answer to the question, though.

Out of curiosity, I did a Google search and every British recipe for fruit / wedding cake that I found had loads of glace cherries???

Hi I am in the UK but have never heard that before - recipes for rich fruit cake do generally have cherries
