Help!  I just pulled two 10" round white cake layers from the oven, and there appears to be tunneling and pools of light brown melted sugar on the surface of the cake.  Can anyone help me troubleshoot?  I creamed butter, sugar, and leaveners together for 5 minutes until light and fluffy, and scraped the bowl mid-way.  Then added eggs one at a time, mixing well before the next egg.  Then alternated dry ingredients and wet (buttermilk) in three additions, and mixed until combined, with a final mix and bowl scrape with spatula.

Any help / ideas would be much appreciated, thanks in advance!
