I am making cupcakes for a wedding and they want three kinds white, turtle and red velvet. They are expecting 150 people, How many would you make? It's my wedding present for the bride. I plan on having one of each kind for the bridal and family tables. I would love your input.

TIA!

Melissa

The general rule of thumb is to have 1.5 cupcakes per person.  This number can go up to 2 cupcakes per person since you are offering multiple flavors.

BUT!

From my experience going to weddings and having cupcakes at my own wedding...I think you would be fine making enough cupcakes (if they are regular sized cupcakes) for the amount of people they are expecting.  If you want to have extras just in case, then you can throw in another 2 dozen as a safe guard.  I would also make sure that you provide take-away containers for any leftover cupcakes if guests would prefer to take one home instead of eat it there.  Or ask the venue where the wedding takes place if they have anything that can be used.

I don't really get the idea of having more cupcakes when having multiple flavors because that rule doesn't hold true when it comes to a regular wedding cake.  To me one cupcake equals one slice of cake and if you don't have to double the amount of servings with a multi-flavor wedding cake then why the heck do you have to do it with cupcakes?
