How Far In Advance Can You Make Cakes, Fondant And Gumpaste Decorations?

I have 2 cakes to make in the same week and they both involve a lot of decorations varying in size. How long can I freeze a plain uncovered cake for and how far in advance can I make fondant and gumpaste decorations and how can I store them.

I haven't much experience with gum paste or fondant but if the cake is wrapped really well it will be fine frozen for weeks or even months..

Fondant & gp decorations can also be made weeks even months ahead   Just lightly cover to keep them dust free   Don’t tightly cover they might soften if they are not totally dry :(  also keep out of light as much as possible so they don’t fade

Ditto what Betty and Lynne said!  Even if you fondant decorations need to remain pliable, you can make them and store them in a Ziploc bag for a few days.  They will firm up, but still be flexible enough to easily apply to the cake (such as borders that wrap around the base).
