Geode Crystals And Cream Cheese Icing

Hi there bakers, I am curious if anyone has ever used cream cheese icing on a geode cake. I am afraid it might melt the crystals,Has anyone had success doing this?
I've only made one geode cake and it was covered with fondant. I would be a bit afraid to put the crystals right into the cream cheese or any other buttercream type frosting. When you make a geode cake, however, you carve out the cavity which will hold the crystals and cover it with frosting and fondant before applying the crystals. I see no reason why you could not do exactly the same thing on a cake frosted with cream cheese frosting. The crystals would not come into contact with the cream cheese, or only minimally around the edges.
