Hi all,

So in 2 weeks time I will be setting off for my 4 hour journey to the wedding venue to set down my wedding cake that my hubby and I are making.

It's nothing to fancy - 2 tiers which will be covered in buttercream, and when we arrive at the venue the day before our ceremony we will assemble the cake there.  I need to get some boxes as I was going to put each tier in a separate box.

So a couple of questions:

1. It's a long journey and it will be September (in the UK), so hopefully not too hot. I don't have any cool boxes, I'll just be ordering some simple white cake boxes, but I did see a video of a guy putting frozen water bottles in the box with the cakes wrapped in paper to keep the cakes cool. Is this a good idea?

2. I've heard about people transporting "cold" cakes. Does this just mean they've been in the fridge once iced / frosted? I wont have any room in my freezer and just about enough room in the fridge to chill them.

3. Lastly, I'll be setting up the cakes at the venue the night before our wedding. The venue have kindly said that I can do this and leave the cake out, but I'm a bit worried about just leaving the cake exposed and a) it drying out and b) the potential of some fly to land on it. Should I just get some massive box to put over it?

Thanks so much in advance if anyone has any tips !!

Yes it will help especaially if it turns out to be warmer than you expected.                                                                                                                             ..............heard about   transporting "cold" cakes. Yes, that's all that's necessary.   I live where the temp in summer can be 100+ degrees F  and have delived cakes at room temp without problems. ......... setting up the cakes at the venue the night before our wedding.....I'm a bit worried about just leaving the cake exposed and a) it drying out and b) the potential of some fly to land on it............

There should be no problem if it is a clean venue  I have done it dozens of times.  Would you leave it on the counter of your home?  Of course one would :)  Once cake has been properly crumbcoated &/or iced completely it will not dry out.  The icing seals the moisture in.

Don't overthink this.  Relax and enjoy your wedding day!  Happiness always to you both.

Just re read your post and I don't understand wrapping the *cakes* in paper.  Wrap the water bottles in a towel.
