I made this for my brother who loves maps and is quite arty/quirky. It’s nothing like what I was picturing. I wanted the paper to curl out but it only cracked or curled in on itself. And it looks really pale and washed out which wasn’t the intention. And I intended to have a stone element as if the maps were peeling off a wall but instead it looks like decoupage. 

Hope he likes it more than I do.

It looks good   There will always be times when we are not happy with our designs but it’s the person who it’s for that usually loves it   I’m sure your brother will

a guy who likes maps will love that cake! try not to project your feelings about it out there at all -- how did it go?

Thank you. He loved it. He recognised all the places on the maps. 

I like the idea of making original, artistic cakes but the reality is much harder than I imagine. It’s a lot easier to copy someone else’s designs.

But it’s such an accomplishment to see an original work come to fruition...even if it’s not exactly how you imagined it.
