Just curious - what's your policy for your customers regarding damage to the cake after it is picked up? I have had this happen on 3 separate occasions in the past year. One was a collapse (it was fine when I met the client with it and handed it off)- I remade it and delivered it myself to the event at no charge. And, twice I have had melting issues. One client put the cake in a hot car and went in a restaurant and left it
That is why I delivered almost all my cakes You can /must be very! upfront with your customer Explain how to transport/handle your creation letting them know you are not responsible for damage if/when they pickup Work a small delivery charge into the total cost so they don’t know:) To me it’s part of doing business—making sure the customer is well taken care of
I always let them know how to handle the cake so it's in the bet condition possible. One wedding was in a barn in July and the groom requested whipped frosting for the top layer! I kept it in the reach-in while I set everything else up, pulled it out and let them get photos pre ceremony). Put it back, then told them not to pull it out until they wanted to cut it. They did fine.
If they've picked it up, and let it it out, or I've dropped it off and they did something - that's on them. I'm laissez faire once it's changed hands!
